Understanding the evolution of holoparasitic plants: the complete plastid genome of the holoparasite Cytinus hypocistis (Cytinaceae).
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Plant plastid genomes are highly conserved in size, gene content and structure; however, parasitic plants are a noticeable exception to this evolutionary stability. Although the evolution of parasites could help to better understand plastome evolution in general, complete plastomes of parasites have been sequenced only for some lineages so far. Here we contribute to filling ...
متن کاملChromosome number, microsporogenesis, microgametogenesis, and pollen viability in the Brazilian native grass Mesosetum chaseae (Poaceae).
The genus Mesosetum is a primarily South American genus with 42 species. Mesosetum chaseae, regionally known as 'grama-do-cerrado', is abundant in the Pantanal Matogrossense (Brazil); it is a valuable resource for livestock and for environmental conservation. We collected specimens from the Nhecolandia sub-region of the Brazilian Pantanal, located in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. We...
متن کاملHydrolyzable tannins, the active constituents of three Greek Cytinus taxa against several tumor cell lines.
Hydrolyzable tannins were found to be the active cytotoxic constituents of three Greek Cytinus taxa: Cytinus ruber, Cytinus hypocistis subsp. hypocistis and Cytinus hypocistis subsp. orientalis. The cytotoxic activity was evaluated against a broad spectrum of cancer cell lines. The structure of the active compounds was investigated with NMR and electrospray-MS/MS techniques.
متن کاملChromosome Number Variation in Iranian Populations of Acorus calamus
Different ploidy levels, diploid (2n=2x=24) to hexaploid (2n=6x=72) have been reported for Acorus calamus, a perennial medicinal plant. According to available information, there is a significant relationship between the ploidy level and essential oil compositions and medicinal properties of this important genetic resource. However, there is no information about the chromosome number of A. calam...
متن کاملSTUDY ON CHANGES OF PROTEINS, ENZYMES AND CHROMOSOME NUMBER IN REGENERATED PLANTS OF WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVUM L.)
Somaclonal variation is one of the possible sources of variation in plant breeding. To evaluate the usefulness of somaclonal variation for creating variation in Iranian cultivars of wheat, proteins, enzymes and chromosome number of regenerated and seed-produced plants of wheat (Alamout, Hyrmand and Maroon) were studied. Plantlets obtained from the immature embryos and seed culture were collecte...
